Menam Mechanika collaborates with ThaiMIC for research

ThaiMIC was established by the collaboration of multidisciplinary teams to jointly research, invent, and modify necessary and scarce medical devices and equipment in semi-emergency situations in accordance with academic principles and safe for medical personnel and patients.

Consisting of volunteer teams who were allowed to join the event, such as lecturers from the Department of Anesthesia, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, alumni from the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture, scientists, experts in various fields, and doctors from various institutions.

What is PAPR?

Head-mounted protective mask with high-efficiency air filter

Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR)

It is a respiratory protection device that relies on the principle of air circulation. It filters the surrounding air and uses it as breathing air.

Working principle

This device sucks in the surrounding air through a filter at all times. The filter traps the toxins and releases the filtered good air into the air pipe to the mask. This air is used for breathing and creates continuous positive pressure inside the mask assembly, which prevents the surrounding air from flowing back into the mask.

Project Achievements

In 2021, we received support for the production of 800 units from the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under Royal Patronage.
In 2020-2021, we received support for the production of 3450 units from the National Innovation Agency, Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
PAPR has distributed more than 8000 units to hospitals throughout Thailand, both public and private sectors, and has received very good feedback.

The Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Anek Laothamatas, along with the Permanent Secretary, Prof. Dr. Siriruk Songsivilai, witnessed the handover ceremony of research and innovation results.

The project “Head-mounted protective mask with high-efficiency air filter PAPR” under the National Research Office, conducted by the Thai Subcontracting Promotion Association on January 21, 2021.

All devices have been tested for leakage.

Leak Test ≤ 0.01% (Actual Result 0.0008%)
